Transportation Floor Remarks by Joe May

On March 9, 2010, Delegate Joe May gave a speech on the House floor on the need to do something about transportation funding.

He spoke of a gas tax being nothing more than a cents per gallon toll and advocated the equivalent 15 cents per gallon gas tax that was contained in HB 971 that had been patroned by Delegates Tom Rust, Vivian Watts and he during the 2010 Session.

He emphasized the need to pass something along the lines of HB 971 and said that while they expected that bill would not pass this Session he hoped the legislation could be considered at future sessions as a means of addressing the transportation funding need.

A copy of his remarks are attached and will be posted on the ODHCA website. It is good to see that Joe May continues to try and keep the need for solving Virginia's transportation funding crisis before the members of the House.
